All our energies have been focussed on the vast mud heap over the last few weeks, and the interior of our house is going to wreck and ruin. A tiny taster of the cluttered horror of our lounge come eBay shop come dumping ground can be found a few pics down. Eyelash donkey is not amused! So when I recently had the opportunity to work with Dwell to update our living space, there was no hesitation. I set about excavating indoors to make a calm retreat for the husband to come in to after another day of extreme gardening. At first I thought their style might be too modern for us, but after a visit to their Tottenham Court road store, I realised that there were lots of simple and functional designs that could update our home. With a white theme to lift the darkened lounge and vintage furniture, I improved our storage needs with a minimalist twist and found some delicious lemongrass scented candles made by a local company to freshen the place up!Before as you can see, my reclaimed wood shelves are gradually getting piled higher and higher with anything and everything, books are taking over and cushions are running amuck! Lets not linger here but onwards to our fresh white corner of bliss.I am so pleased with the Escala shelving, crisp white and clean, and not too much room to get cluttered. I can keep my favourite books in rotation and new vintage treasures displayed on the smaller shelves higher up. Any unsightly but necessary clutter can be shut behind the doors of our old record cabinet.I think all the bright white sets off our shabby fireside chairs nicely, these will be reupholstered soon, although I am becoming quite attached to their nana chic floral pattern. The log is a piece of the eucalyptus tree that fell on our roof in the storms. I knew it would make the husband smile if I made use of it, and the antlers were won at an auction a while back. The iron magazine rack is a super way to store my Elle Decoration and Country Living magazines. All my city mouse versus country mouse inspirations can hang neatly together, instead of piled up under the bed gathering dust. I am way beyond happy with this simple but clever revelation! With a log burner on the wish list, it will be lovely to sit in our chairs to read and relax. We still have no television so will grab a magazine to read, with the fresh and zesty scent of lemongrass.Below as you can see, I have had another move around since the weekend, it could all change again, but the simple uncluttered style is staying, thanks to the lovely peeps from Dwell for the inspiration!
